THE WHEN

This game was created as my Capstone piece for my MFA in Interactive Media at the University of Miami.
It was conceptualized and designed from August to December 2022 and built out from January to April 2023. Any future updates to this project will likely be few and far between, but never say never!

THE WHY

I really love fighting games, especially the community and the hype that surrounds them, but I have always been bothered by people fighting about different character archetypes. Who cares about who grapples and who has ranged projectiles, just fight each other! So that is the backbone this game was built upon. What if you had a fighting game where the fighters just… didn’t move?

THE HOW

Using the Unity Engine and the Universal Fighting Engine, I concocted Flora Fighter. While UFE was a perfect jumping point for my concept, there was a lot of work that needed to be done to create the game system I wanted. After all, if you can’t move in a fighting game, what else can you do? I designed and scripted a brand new blocking engine from scratch, designed to mimic shielding from Super Smash Bros, but still keep that element of skill and precise timing that every fighting game has.
